If you added credit by mistake, bought the wrong plan, or still have unused credit after moving your number, you can ask a Giffgaff agent to review a refund request. A refund is not automatic, and the result depends on your account and payment history.
This guide is based on Giffgaff’s official Help Centre. Check the linked official pages before submitting because policies and screens can change.
What to prepare
- Your Giffgaff mobile number and member name
- A screenshot of the relevant balance or plan
- Payment date, amount and payment method
- Any disconnection, billing or porting notice
- A clear and truthful reason for the request
- Access to the email used for your account
Hide passwords, verification codes and complete card numbers in every screenshot.
When to contact Giffgaff
Giffgaff’s refund page covers mistakes such as buying the wrong plan, adding credit accidentally, unrecognised charges, and asking about unused credit after moving to another network. Support must still decide whether your specific payment is refundable.
The 14-day cancellation period has separate rules. Credit, partially used plans and phone purchases are not treated in the same way.
Step-by-step refund request
1. Sign in through an official channel
Use the Giffgaff website or app. Do not enter your password through a link in an unfamiliar email or message.
2. Check payments and recurring settings
Record the current balance, active plan and payment history. If you are leaving, check recurring plans and automatic top-ups so that another payment is not taken while the request is open.
3. Contact an agent
Account, payment and billing requests are handled by Giffgaff agents. Open Giffgaff Help and use HelpBot or the “Ask an agent” route, then choose the closest payment or refund category.
4. Explain the request clearly
Use accurate dates and amounts. Adapt this original template:
Hello,
I would like to ask whether the unused credit remaining on my
Giffgaff account is eligible for a refund.
Giffgaff mobile number: [your number]
Member name: [your member name]
Amount concerned: £[amount]
Payment date: [date]
Reason for the request: [your truthful reason]
Please review my account and confirm the refundable amount,
the payment method and any additional information you need.
Thank you.
5. Keep the case record
Save the confirmation or case number. Giffgaff says agents aim to answer account-related questions within 24 hours. Check “View agent messages” in Help or the app inbox.
Refund method and timing
Giffgaff states that approved refunds normally return to the original payment method. After processing, allow approximately 3–5 business days for the bank or payment provider to display the funds.
This is general guidance, not a guarantee. Voucher payments, expired cards or a closed payment account may need additional handling.
If the refund does not arrive
- Check agent messages in Giffgaff Help, not only your external email.
- Provide accurate dates, amounts and proof of payment.
- If Giffgaff confirms completion, ask the original payment provider to trace it.
- If support cannot resolve the issue, follow Giffgaff’s formal complaints process and keep the full case history.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Is every refund request approved?
No. Eligibility and the refundable amount depend on Giffgaff’s review of the account, payment and reason for the request.
How long does a refund take?
Giffgaff says an approved refund may take a further 3–5 business days to reach the original payment method.
Can I request unused credit after switching networks?
Giffgaff lists unused credit after moving a number as a situation its support team can review. Save your balance and payment records before switching.
